It is a sticky, black, tar-like substance that comes from rocks in high mountain ranges, primarily in the rocks of the Himalayas. It was traditionally sourced in India and Tibet, though it is now found in many other countries. Shilajit is composed of Rock Humus, Rock Minerals, and organic substances that have been compromised by layers of rock mixed with marine organisms and microbial metabolites. Shilajit has been used extensively in Ayurvedic medicine and folk medicine for over 4,000 years. It is known traditionally as the “destroyer of weakness”. One study gave 60 infertile men shilajit twice a day for 90 days. After the test period, almost half of the men who completed the treatment showed an increase in total sperm count and sperm motility. In another study, men between 45 and 55 years of age were given shilajit for 90 days. At the end of this period, researchers noted significant increases in the levels of total testosterone.
