Description:  Celestine (or Celestite) derives its name from the Latin word caelestis, which means “celestial”, in turn derived from the Latin word caelum, meaning “sky” or “heaven”. Celestine is a mineral consisting of strontium sulfate. Celestine and the carbonate mineral strontianite are the principal sources of the element strongium, commonly used in fireworks and in various metal alloys. Celestine geodes are understood to form by replacement of alabaster nodules consisting of calcium sulfates, gypsum, or anhydrite. Ctrontium-bearing solutions that come into contact with calcium sulfate nodules dissolve the calcium away, leaving a cavity. The strontium is immediately precipitated as Celestine, with the crystals growing into the newly-formed cavity. The mineral is found worldwide, usually in small quantities. Large geodes and crystal clusters of Celestite are found in Ohio, Michigan, Poland, Spain, Brazil, Egypt, Mexico, the United Kingdom, and Madagascar. The world’s largest known Celestine geode is 35 feet in diameter at its widest point, located near the village of Put-in-Bay, Ohio on South Bass Island in Lake Erie. This geode, known as “Crystal Cave” has Celestine crystals as wide as 18 inches across, estimated to weigh up to 300 pounds. CLEANSING AND CHARGING Be sure to cleanse your Celestite when received, and charge with your own energy and intentions. Use your feather fan to waft over it the smoke of purifying incense. Use sound vibrations from a singing bowl, bells, or tingsha chimes while quickly and carefully passing through the flame of a light blue candle. Place in a (preferably Selenite or Clear Quartz, just not any kind of metal) bowl on top of a bed of dead sea salt and leave soaking in the moonlight for at least four hours. Remove from the bowl, rinse for 30 seconds in (ideally natural, like a stream or in the rain) running water, then gently dry with a cloth (BE CAREFUL with stones that may easily scratch). Hold in your left hand (if wearing for receiving intentions) or right hand (if wearing for emitting intentions) and meditate your intentions and energy onto the stones for half an hour. Alternatively, cleanse by smudging then holding under running water (or leaving out in rainwater) for at least 30 seconds, dry, and gently place in a bed of sea salt on a windowsill after sunset for a few hours. Avoid exposure to harsh chemicals and cleaning products. Because your gemstones can absorb negative energy, avoid allowing others to touch or handle them and be sure to cleanse regularly.
