Description:  Agate is a variety of chalcedony, a member of the quartz family, which comes in many colors. Agates are primarily formed on or within pre-existing volcanic and metamorphic rocks. Their host rocks have been dated to have formed as early as the Archean Eon (between 4,540 – 2,500 million years ago), when the Earth was mostly a water world with a continental crust that was mostly under an ocean deeper than today’s oceans, and the atmosphere was rich in methane and lacked free oxygen. Agates have also been found in sedimentary rocks, normally in limestone or dolomite. It is found in a wide range of colors, including shades of red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, and pink, as well as black and white. Agate is a versatile gemstone often used in jewelry making, favored for its durability. Blue Lace Agate, also known as Blue Chalcedony Lace, appears as a delicate piece of lace with combined band threads of bright blue, pale blue, white, and sometimes brown. The color comes from a process called Rayleigh Scattering. This gemstone is formed when magma cools and silica bubbles become trapped in it, forming cavities. The cavities slowly fill with silica-rich fluids which create layers that slowly work their way into the center of the cavity, creating the banding of blue and white. Blue Lace Agate is found mostly in South Africa (discovered in Namibia), while small amounts are found in China, Brazil, India, and some places in the southwestern United States. CLEANSING AND CHARGING Be sure to cleanse your Agate when received, and charge with your own energy and intentions. Use your feather fan to waft over it the smoke of purifying incense. Use sound vibrations from a singing bowl, bells, or tingsha chimes while quickly and carefully passing through the flame of a Blue or White candle. Place in a (preferably Selenite or Clear Quartz, just not any kind of metal) bowl on top of a bed of dead sea salt and leave soaking in the moonlight for at least four hours. Remove from the bowl, rinse for 30 seconds in (ideally natural, like a stream or in the rain) running water, then gently dry with a cloth (BE CAREFUL with stones that may easily scratch). Hold in your left hand (if wearing for receiving intentions) or right hand (if wearing for emitting intentions) and meditate your intentions and energy onto the stones for half an hour. Alternatively, cleanse by smudging then holding under running water (or leaving out in rainwater) for at least 30 seconds, dry, and gently place in a bed of sea salt on a windowsill after sunset for a few hours. Avoid exposure to harsh chemicals and cleaning products. Because your gemstones can absorb negative energy, avoid allowing others to touch or handle them and be sure to cleanse regularly.
