Sodalite enhances your self-esteem and sense of self-worth. Description:  Sodalite is a tectosilicate mineral with royal blue varieties widely used as an ornamental gemstone. Although massive Sodalite samples are opaque, crystals are usually transparent to translucent. A light, relatively hard yet fragile mineral, Sodalite is named after its sodium content; in mineralogy it may be classed as a feldspathoid. Well known for its blue color, Sodalite may be grey, yellow, green or pink and is often mottled with white veins or patches. Somewhat similar to Lazurite and Lapis Lazuli, Sodalite rarely contains Pyrite, and its blue color is more like a traditional royal blue. It is further distinguished from similar minerals by its white (rather than blue) streaks. Most Sodalite will fluoresce orange under ultraviolet light. The more uniformly blue Sodalite is used in jewelry, fashioned into cabochons and beads. Lesser material is more often used as facing or inlay in various applications. First discovered by Europeans in 1811 in the Ilimaussaq intrusive complex in Narsaq, West Greenland, Sodalite did not become widely important as an ornamental stone until 1891 when vast deposits of fine material were discovered in Ontario, Canada. Significant deposits can be found at Princess Sodalite Mine, Bancroft, Ontario, Canada; Mont-Saint-Hilaire, Quebec, Canada; Litchfield, Maine, United States; Magnet Cove, Arkansas, United States; and Ice River Complex, near Golden, British Columbia. Smaller deposits are found in South America (Brazil and Bolivia), Portugal, Romania, Burma and Russia. CLEANSING AND CHARGING Be sure to cleanse your Sodalite when received, and charge with your own energy and intentions. Use your feather fan to waft over it the smoke of purifying incense. Use sound vibrations from a singing bowl, bells, or tingsha chimes while quickly and carefully passing through the flame of a blue, white, gray or black candle. Place in a (preferably Selenite or Clear Quartz, just not any kind of metal) bowl on top of a bed of dead sea salt and leave soaking in the moonlight for at least four hours. Remove from the bowl, rinse for 30 seconds in (ideally natural, like a stream or in the rain) running water, then gently dry with a cloth (BE CAREFUL with stones that may easily scratch). Hold in your left hand (if wearing for receiving intentions) or right hand (if wearing for emitting intentions) and meditate your intentions and energy onto the stones for half an hour. Alternatively, cleanse by smudging then holding under running water (or leaving out in rainwater) for at least 30 seconds, dry, and gently place in a bed of sea salt on a windowsill after sunset for a few hours. Avoid exposure to harsh chemicals and cleaning products. Because your gemstones can absorb negative energy, avoid allowing others to touch or handle them and be sure to cleanse regularly. Recharge as needed by placing in the sunlight or moonlight for a few hours, or by burying in the earth for a day or two. Avoid exposure to harsh chemicals and cleaning products.
