Antique Edwardian 9ct Gold Australia 'Federation Wheat' Pendant Charm

A unique little antique Australian wheat bundle pendant or charm from the early Edwardian era, c1903! Made of 9ct yellow gold the colour is a buttery matte yellow, indicative of the older gold. The dainty piece depicts a wheat bundle, (aka bundle of wheat!) with a scroll engraved "AUSTRALIA" across the front. The wheat is emphasized with finely engraved details representing the head, leaves and stem. A circular border with little granules interspaced along the outer rim encircles the wheat. A ring and 9ct gold split jump ring attaches to the top. The piece was likely to have been made in the advent of Australia's first trouble-free and successful wheat crop, produced around 1903 - naming it the "Federation wheat" in honour of the creation of Australia becoming a nation in 1901. Additionally, the wheat motif was also a symbol utilized in Australia's first stamping system in 1889 - the wheat sheaf denoted 9ct gold and was used up until 1920. A rare golden wheat packed with oodles of Australian history!
