Chlorella is also known as the “Jewel of the East”, but the name Chlorella is taken from the Greek “chlōros”, meaning green and the Latin suffix “ella”, meaning small. Chlorella is considered a source of food and energy because of its high photosynthetic efficiency. When first harvested, Chlorella was suggested as an inexpensive protein supplement to the human diet. In addition, Chlorella contains fat, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. Just 2.4 tsp (0.4 ounces) of Chlorella has 6 grams of protein and 72% of the daily value of iron.
