The seed contains a compound that is chemically identical to caffeine called guaranine and can be 2-6 times stronger than coffee beans (about 40-80 mg of caffeine per gram), among the highest concentrations of caffeine in any plant. Millions of people use Guarana for vitality and energy, helping fight fatigue. The seed is used whole or powdered to create stimulating beverages, sodas, syrups, and candies. Guarana is also known to help purify the blood and is blood thinning. It also has antioxidant properties that help fight the aging process. It is used to treat digestive issues such as diarrhea, gas, and upset stomach.  It also helps suppress appetite and aids and weight loss. Guarana is also known to help strengthen the heart and increase sexual performance. Since the 1700’s, it has been used in the West as a stimulant and aphrodisiac. Guarana has painkilling properties similar to the effects of aspirin, increases physical endurance, helps the ability to withstand stress, and improves mental acuity. Historical Uses:  energy, vitality, help fatigue, anti-aging, blood purifying, digestion, diarrhea, gas, upset stomach, suppress appetite, weight loss, increase sexual performance, boosts endurance, nervous system stimulant, blood thinning, aphrodisiac, pain relieving, relieves stress, mental sharpness, antioxidant, protects from malaria, protects against dysentery Mystical Intentions:  memory aid, sex magic, lust, alertness, energy, hunger, overeating, quick thinking Taste & Smell:  Guarana has a sweet fruity taste. Botany, Cultivation & Harvesting:  Guarana is native to the Amazon basin rainforests and is especially common in Brazil. It has divided compound leaves. It often grows to 12 m high. The fruit is small, round, bright-red in color, and grows in clusters. As it ripens, the fruit splits and a black seed emerges—giving it an “eye”-like appearance. For Guarana, soils must be deep, medium or heavy in texture, well drained and with high organic matter content. Traditional planting is by sowing seeds. Modern propagation techniques include cuttings, for which misting chambers, grafts and tissue culture propagation are used. The seeds are harvested after the fruit splits open; they are then shelled and washed. Guarana seeds are dried whole (or dried whole then ground). Sometimes the seeds are washed and roasted for six hours, then put into sacks and shaken until their outside shell comes off. They are then pounded into a fine powder. Store dried Guarana whole seeds or powdered Guarana seeds in an airtight container in a cool, dry place.
