Marula is said to be even better at restoring elasticity to skin than jojoba. It can also be helpful for dry chapped lips. Adding marula oil to a hair serum can help dry, frizzy, or brittle hair and help prevent split ends. Or a few drops can be added to shampoo and hair conditioner. Massaged into the scalp, it may even help reduce dandruff. Marula oil is also helpful for dry nails and cuticles. Including marula in a nail oil can help reduce hangnails and painful, cracked skin around the nails. Marula oil is a carrier oil and does not require dilution. Marula trees grow best in warm conditions without frost, but can tolerate mild frosts if protected during their first few growing seasons. They are fairly drought-resistant and can grow up to 13 meters tall. To grow a marula tree, collect the seeds in the summer when processing the fruit. Clean the seeds and let them dry in the sun. Mix together a seedling soil using coconut fiber (koyo), soil from your area, sand, compost, or other organic matter. Prepare a sowing tray with a layer of the mix that’s about 2-3 cm thick. Place the seeds on top of the seedling mix, giving them enough space to germinate. Cover with another 1-2 cm layer of the mix. Water well and keep the soil moist. Place the pot or bag in the shade, away from direct sunlight. Water the soil 3-4 times a week, but don’t flood it. Mature trees need plenty of sunlight to thrive. If the tree does not get direct sunlight, it can be placed less than 3 feet from a south-facing window. Without enough sunlight, the tree will drop its leaves. Contraindications & Toxicity: WARNING!!
