‘The Kelpies’ are the newest arrival to our Scottish range!   The word ‘Kelpie’ is said to come from the Scottish Gaelic words ‘colpach‘ or ‘cailpeach’,  meaning colt or heifer. The mythological shape-changing Kelpies are believed to haunt rivers and streams, usually in the shape of a horse. The artist’s inspiration for the sculptures comes from the heavy horses that once powered Scotland’s canals, and Clydesdale horses, Baron & Duke, were the sculptor’s real-life models. Located in Helix Park, between Falkirk and Grangemouth in Scotland, the magnificent 30 metre high giant sculptures are positioned either side of a specially constructed lock & basin and are the largest public artworks in Scotland (& the largest equine sculptures in the world!), each weighing in at 300 tonnes!    Sold individually, our coasters are wooden with a bright glossy finish and a cork back, showing images of The Kelpies and printed with their names ~ Baron & Duke. We print our coasters using a sublimation process here in our workshop in Ayrshire, Scotland. We also have matching mugs (available in separate listing)
