‘The Kelpies’ mug

‘The Kelpies’ are the newest arrival to our Scottish range! The word ‘Kelpie’ is said to come from the Scottish Gaelic words ‘colpach‘ or ‘cailpeach’,  meaning colt or heifer. The mythological shape-changing Kelpies are believed to haunt rivers and streams, usually in the shape of a horse. The artist’s inspiration for the sculptures comes from the heavy horses that once powered Scotland’s canals, and Clydesdale horses, Baron & Duke, were the sculptor’s real-life models. Located in Helix Park, between Falkirk and Grangemouth in Scotland, the magnificent 30 metre high giant sculptures are positioned either side of a specially constructed lock & basin and are the largest public artworks in Scotland (& the largest equine sculptures in the world!), each weighing in at 300 tonnes!  Our (much lighter!) 11-ounce white ceramic mugs have a bright glossy finish with a lovely blue coloured handle and interior, with images of The Kelpies on either side. We print our mugs using a sublimation process here in our workshop in Ayrshire, Scotland. Shown with matching coaster (available in separate listing)
