After being hand selected, the salt is then hand crushed, hand washed, and dried in the sun. Salt was highly valued in Greece and Rome, being used as currency and traded for slaves. This established the expression, “not worth a pound of salt”. It also gave rise to the word “salary”, in that the Latin word it derived from meant “a sum given to soldiers to buy salt”. Himalayan Pink Salt contains over 80 different minerals that are necessary for health, including macrominerals like calcium, chloride, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, sodium, and many trace minerals. Himalayan Pink Salt has been used to treat rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, and osteoarthritis by soaking in the salt water, which is said to stimulate blood circulation. Regularly soaking affected areas in Himalayan Pink Salt water is said to help skin disorders like acne and psoriasis.
